In the small city of Thomson, Georgia, a tragedy unfolded on the night of October 12, 2015, forever altering the lives of a local family. On that Monday evening, at approximately 10:30 PM, officers from the Thomson Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Gus Street following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a young man, 16-year-old Santrevian Tydarius Cartledge, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to University-McDuffie Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
Known affectionately as 'Ty' to his friends and family, Santrevian was a tenth-grade student at Thomson High School. He was born on December 14, 1998, to Bernadette Leann Hampton and Santonio Tywon Cartledge. In his spare time, he enjoyed music, playing basketball, and connecting with friends on social media. His sudden and violent death sent shockwaves through the community, leaving his loved ones to grapple with an unimaginable loss.
The investigation into the homicide was swiftly taken up by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which began to piece together the events of that fateful night. Their work quickly led to the identification of a suspect, 21-year-old Quanterius Hampton. An arrest warrant for the offense of murder was issued for Hampton, who was later identified as Santrevian's brother. In a sorrowful turn of events, Quanterius Hampton subsequently surrendered to authorities, turning himself in for the murder of his younger brother.
