On a summer day in Thomson, Georgia, the life of Roosevelt Wendell Demmons, Sr. was tragically cut short. The 32-year-old man passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016, in his hometown. Born on July 15, 1984, in Augusta, Georgia, Demmons was a lifelong resident of McDuffie County and a father to one son, Roosevelt Demmons, Jr. He was employed with Sac Transport Incorporated at the time of his death.
In the wake of his untimely passing, the community and his family, including his wife Stacy Moss Demmons and his parents Loretta and David Demmons, were left to mourn a man remembered for his bright smile and engaging personality. The family held a visitation for grieving friends and relatives, followed by a funeral service to honor his memory.
The narrative of Roosevelt Demmons' death did not end with his burial. An investigation into his death led to the arrest of Ricquavious Tarver. In September 2018, a jury found Tarver guilty of the malice murder of Demmons. After a deliberation that lasted an hour and 45 minutes, the verdict was delivered. A Superior Court judge subsequently sentenced Tarver to life in prison plus an additional five years, with the possibility of parole after serving a minimum of 30 years.
