In the late summer of 2017, the community of Columbus, Georgia, was shaken by the untimely death of Cody Jamal Mathis. A 21-year-old African American man, Mathis's life was tragically cut short on Sunday, August 20, 2017. The circumstances surrounding his death were determined to be a homicide, launching an investigation by the Columbus Police Department.
