In the early morning hours of August 8, 2017, the quiet community of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, was disturbed by a tragic event that unfolded within the walls of a local home. Mickie Kelsey, a 74-year-old woman, was found deceased from a gunshot wound. The circumstances leading to her death began to surface after her husband, 73-year-old George Kelsey, made a distress call to 911 around 1 a.m.
In his call, he admitted to shooting his wife and then turning the gun on himself.
Upon their arrival at the residence, police officers were required to force their way inside. Once in the home, they discovered Mickie Kelsey, who had succumbed to her injuries. George Kelsey was found still alive and conscious, despite having also suffered a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital to undergo surgery for his injuries.
The incident was investigated as a murder-suicide attempt, with George Kelsey identified as the perpetrator in the death of his wife. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear to investigators. Mickie Kelsey was born on June 12, 1943, and was a resident of Pine Bluff at the time of her passing.
