In the late summer of 2017, the life of 36-year-old Antonio Jerome Ferguson was tragically cut short in Augusta, Georgia. On Sunday, September 3, 2017, he was fatally shot. The events leading to his death stemmed from a dispute over money with a man named Shaun Walker, with whom Ferguson was living at the time.
The conflict between Ferguson and Walker had been escalating in the days before the shooting.
The two had been seen arguing, and on the night before the incident, they had a heated exchange at a local bar which resulted in Walker being asked to leave. The disagreement over finances was a central point of contention between them.
On that fateful Sunday, the conflict reached its violent climax on a residential sidewalk. Walker confronted Ferguson, armed with a gun, and demanded money while snatching Ferguson's cell phone. An eyewitness, a ten-year-old child, reported hearing Ferguson refuse Walker's demands before Walker opened fire, shooting Ferguson multiple times before fleeing the scene. Antonio Jerome Ferguson died as a result of gunshot wounds to his torso, right forearm, and legs.
Following an investigation, Shaun Walker was arrested for the murder of Antonio Ferguson. During a recorded statement to the police, Walker admitted to killing Ferguson, claiming it was in self-defense and expressing numerous grievances he had with the victim. He was subsequently put on trial in Richmond County. A jury found Shaun Walker guilty of malice murder and other related crimes in connection with the shooting death of Antonio Jerome Ferguson.
