In the early morning hours of October 8, 2017, the life of 27-year-old Sean K. Brooks Jr. was tragically cut short in a shooting that unfolded near the intersection of East 33rd Street and Waters Avenue in Savannah, Georgia. Responding to the scene at approximately 2:50 a.m., officers with the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department found Brooks and another man, 32-year-old Michael Waters, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both men were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. While Waters' injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, Brooks ultimately succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead. The initial investigation into the incident suggested that the shooting was not a random act of violence.
In the wake of the shooting, investigators identified a suspect in the case. Eric Adaryll Williams, who was 28 at the time, was taken into custody and charged in connection with the death of Sean Brooks and the injury of Michael Waters. Williams faced a series of charges, including murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
