In the early morning hours of October 29, 2017, the body of 32-year-old Matthew Ladarren Harrington was discovered in a vacant lot in the 400 block of W. Bolton Lane in Savannah, Georgia. Officers were called to the scene at approximately 7:50 a.m. and found that Harrington had sustained what appeared to be fatal gunshot wounds. Born in Savannah on February 6, 1985, Matthew was known to friends and family as 'Lil' Matt'.

The investigation into the death of the male victim continued for months. In July of 2018, Savannah Police Department's Violent Crimes detectives announced a significant development in the case. They identified 30-year-old Henry L. Johnson as the primary suspect in Harrington's shooting death.

At the time the warrant for murder was issued, Johnson was already incarcerated at the Chatham County Detention Center on unrelated charges. He was served with the new warrant while in custody. Authorities confirmed that their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Matthew Harrington's death was ongoing.
