In the late hours of November 19, 2017, Chelsea Beller, a 29-year-old female restaurant manager, was fatally shot during a robbery at the Barcelona Wine Bar on Howell Mill Road in Atlanta, Georgia. As Beller and her colleagues were closing the restaurant at approximately 2:30 a.m., three masked men forced their way into the establishment. The assailants, armed and dangerous, proceeded to bind the employees with electrical tape.
The robbers then forced Beller to lead them to the
restaurant's office and open the safe. Despite her compliance with their demands, one of the men shot her in the shoulder. The suspects fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Beller was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Atlanta Police Department launched an intensive investigation into the violent crime. In December 2017, the first breakthrough came when DNA evidence recovered from the scene was matched to Samuel Ott, who had a prior criminal record. His arrest led investigators to identify three other individuals involved in the deadly robbery.
The subsequent investigation led to the arrests of Carlous Bailey, Terry Jones, and Ira Williams. By February 2018, all four suspects were in custody. They were indicted on multiple charges, including murder, felony murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, and false imprisonment.
In January 2023, all four men—Carlous Bailey, Terry Jones, Samuel Ott, and Ira Williams—pleaded guilty to the murder of Chelsea Beller and the other charges brought against them. Bailey, identified as the shooter, had previously claimed the shooting was accidental. The guilty pleas brought a long-awaited sense of closure to the family and friends of Chelsea Beller, who remembered her as a vibrant and kind-hearted woman.
