In the early morning hours of a late October day in 2015, the life of 21-year-old Daniel Leon was tragically cut short on a street corner in Cedartown, Georgia. On October 29, 2015, at the intersection of Thompson and Jones Streets, Leon sustained a single, fatal gunshot wound to the chest. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found him still alive, and he was quickly transported to Polk Medical Center. Despite the efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist the Cedartown Police Department in the ensuing homicide investigation.
The investigation into the armed robbery and murder of Daniel Leon led to the identification of several suspects. Within a couple of weeks, authorities had made significant progress, arresting three individuals by early November 2015. Brandon Wilson, who was 17 years old at the time, and 15-year-old Thomas Calhoun were taken into custody and faced charges of armed robbery and murder. Shortly after, 18-year-old Tyler Davis was also arrested on the same charges. A fourth suspect, 17-year-old Hennessey Frazier, was also identified and arrested following a search by the police.
As the case moved through the legal system, some of those involved began to face the consequences of their actions. In April of 2016, Tyler Davis entered a guilty plea to charges of armed robbery and violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. His plea resulted in a sentence of 10 years in prison followed by 10 years of probation. A few months later, in August 2016, two more suspects pleaded guilty. Brandon Wilson admitted to felony voluntary manslaughter and a felony charge related to street gang activity, which led to a 20-year prison sentence. On the same day, KVion Ruffin, who was also 17, pleaded guilty to violating the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act and received a five-year sentence. At that time, Hennessey Frazier and Thomas Calhoun were still awaiting their day in court.
