In the winter of 2022, the life of Mark Adam Griffin, a 42-year-old Caucasian male from Cedartown, Georgia, was cut tragically short. On the afternoon of December 4, 2022, Griffin was involved in a fatal altercation on Esom Hill Road in Polk County that ended in a shooting. He succumbed to the injuries he sustained during this incident.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that another individual was involved in the exchange with Griffin.
This person immediately contacted emergency services by calling 911 and has been actively cooperating with law enforcement officials throughout their inquiry. The Polk County Police Department, led by Police Chief Kenny Dodd, made the decision not to file charges against the shooter at that time. The case was being examined as a potential instance of self-defense, pending a comprehensive investigation and the results of an autopsy to be conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab.
Known to his loved ones as Adam, he was described as a hardworking, loving, and caring family man who was protective of his family. He was a Bridge Division Superintendent for Wright Brothers Construction and was known for his willingness to always lend a helping hand. An avid outdoorsman, he had a passion for riding his Harley, vintage cars and trucks, hunting, and kayaking. He was also a talented tattoo artist and a dedicated fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. Griffin was an active member of the Unified Brothers Motorcycle Club and took great pride in giving back to the community, particularly through events like the Unified Brother Toy Drive.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Lena Dowdy Griffin, his two daughters, Destiny and Alyssa Griffin, his mother, and his three brothers. The investigation into his death remains a focus for local law enforcement as they continue to piece together the events that led to the tragic shooting on that December afternoon.
