In the small city of Cedartown, Georgia, a quiet and well-liked 29-year-old African American man named Antonio King 'Q' Johnson was known for his love of joking and his dedication as a father. A member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, he also had a passion for Jiu-Jitsu. However, the peace of his life was tragically shattered on the evening of December 19, 2022.
A violent home invasion occurred at Johnson's residence on Hutto Road. During the incident, he was shot.
Emergency services responded to a 911 call and, upon arrival, found Johnson wounded. He was quickly airlifted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta for urgent medical care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Antonio King 'Q' Johnson succumbed to his injuries the following day, on December 20, 2022.
The investigation into the homicide, led by the Polk County Police Department with assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, quickly identified a suspect. Brandon Lyle, a 30-year-old male from Cedartown, was arrested in connection with the crime. The investigation revealed that after the shooting, Lyle allegedly stole a vehicle from Johnson's home. While officers were still at the scene of the home invasion, they were dispatched to another burglary in progress on the same road. There, they encountered Lyle, who was armed. Following a brief struggle, he was taken into custody.
Brandon Lyle has been charged with a string of serious offenses, including murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, home invasion, burglary, and theft by taking. The case against him is ongoing and will be prosecuted by the Polk County District Attorney's Office. The community was left to mourn the loss of a man remembered as a loving father with a quiet spirit.
