In the days leading up to Christmas, a tragedy unfolded at a College Park liquor store that claimed the life of Mashona Roberts, a 35-year-old mother of six. On the evening of December 22, 2017, Roberts was at her job at the Old National Liquor store in south Fulton County when an attempted armed robbery turned deadly. The incident cut short the life of a woman remembered by friends and customers for her warm spirit and constant smile.
The events of that fatal night began when
19-year-old Brandon Doe entered the store and attempted to rob it. The store's owner, 55-year-old Tea Mo, retrieved his own firearm, leading to a shootout between the two. In the exchange of gunfire, both Doe and Mo were killed. Tragically, Mashona Roberts, who was working to provide for her children just before the holiday, was caught in the crossfire. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
In the aftermath of the shooting, police confirmed that the suspected robber, Brandon Doe of Sparks, Georgia, acted alone and was killed at the scene. Consequently, no arrests were made as the sole suspect was deceased. The investigation focused on determining the sequence of the gunfight that resulted in the three deaths. The community mourned the loss of Roberts, who was affectionately known as 'Mi-Mi,' and rallied to support her six children who were left without their mother during what should have been a festive season.
