In the early morning hours of January 29, 2018, police in Athens, Georgia, responded to a call about a shooting at a duplex on Sartian Drive. Inside, they found 22-year-old Jennifer Christine Jacobs, a white female, deceased in her bedroom from a gunshot wound to her chest. At the residence at the time of the discovery were two other individuals, one of whom was identified as her boyfriend. A weapon was recovered at the scene, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death began immediately.
More than two months later, in April 2018, authorities announced a significant development in the case. Jennifer's boyfriend, Antonio Littlejohn, was charged with her murder. At the time the murder warrants were issued, Littlejohn was already incarcerated on firearms violations. The investigation led police to believe that Jennifer's death was a result of domestic violence. Another man, 55-year-old Barry Jerome Nelson, was also reportedly involved in the incident, though it was not immediately clear what charges, if any, he would face in connection with Jennifer's death.
By July of that year, a grand jury indicted Antonio Littlejohn on multiple charges, including felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Jennifer was remembered as a free-spirited person who loved dancing, music, and singing. She was a mother, survived by her young daughter, as well as her parents and sisters. Her family held a memorial service to celebrate her life in the weeks following her tragic death.
