In the spring of 2018, a verbal dispute outside a motel in Jonesboro, Georgia, tragically cut short the life of 34-year-old Mario 'Big Boy' De'Andra Molden. The fatal encounter occurred on the evening of March 23 at The Woods Motel on Main Street. What began as a brief argument quickly escalated, ending with Molden being shot at least once. When Clayton County police officers responded to reports of a fight and a shooting at approximately 8 p.m., they discovered Molden deceased at the scene.
Initial witness statements at the chaotic scene suggested that a woman may have been responsible for the shooting. However, investigators soon uncovered surveillance footage from a nearby location that captured the tragic event. The video evidence contradicted the initial reports, clearly showing a male suspect as the perpetrator. This crucial piece of evidence allowed officers to quickly identify the alleged gunman, who was still present at the motel.
The suspect was identified as 50-year-old Lorenzo Gordon, also a resident of Jonesboro. He was promptly taken into custody at the scene of the crime. Gordon faced multiple serious charges, including murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. In a somber side note to the evening's tragedy, a woman who identified herself as a family member of Molden was involved in a single-car accident near the motel shortly after the shooting, though she did not sustain any injuries.
