In the early morning hours of August 26, 2018, the body of 41-year-old Dedrell J. Knox, a male resident of Atlanta, Georgia, was discovered in a grassy area in front of an apartment complex on DeKalb Avenue. Responding to a call about a person shot, Atlanta police officers found Knox at approximately 3:45 a.m. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the initial investigation, authorities noted that Knox was in possession of a significant
amount of cash when he was found. A subsequent search of his apartment uncovered the presence of narcotics, leading investigators to believe the shooting may have been drug-related. The incident is thought to have begun inside one of the apartments before culminating in the front lawn area where Knox's body was located.
In the weeks following the homicide, the Atlanta Police Department released a 12-second video showing four individuals walking near the apartment complex around the time of the shooting. These individuals were labeled as 'persons of interest' in the case. Despite the release of the video and a plea for public assistance, no descriptions of the individuals were provided. A reward of up to $2,000 was offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
As of this writing, there have been no publicly announced arrests in connection with the murder of Dedrell Knox. The identities of the four persons of interest have not been released, and the case remains unsolved. The investigation is ongoing.
