In the summer of 2022, the life of 15-year-old Romello Heard was tragically cut short. On the evening of Tuesday, July 26, police were called to the Woods at Peppertree apartment complex in the 3300 block of Peppertree Circle in DeKalb County, a little after 6:30 p.m. There, they found Romello, a male, who had been fatally shot. The incident was investigated by homicide detectives who determined that the shooting occurred during a robbery.
Romello was a student at Stone Mountain High
School and was one of twelve children. His family described him as a shy, cool, and observant person who had a bright energy that could light up a room. He was a fan of sports and video games. His sudden death left his family and the community reeling from the loss of a young life with so much promise.
In the days following the shooting, law enforcement made progress in the case. Three suspects were identified and arrested in connection with Romello's death. Chaz Lawson, Monterie Junious, and Cameron Jackson were taken into custody and subsequently charged with felony murder and armed robbery. The three men were later indicted on multiple counts, including malice murder, felony murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
