In the quiet town of Cornelia, Georgia, a domestic dispute reached a tragic and fatal conclusion on October 7, 2018, claiming the life of 34-year-old Margaret Loudermilk Ansley. A resident of Cornelia and co-owner of L & A Farms, Margaret was a mother and wife whose life was cut short in an act of violence that also took the life of her father-in-law.
The events unfolded outside Margaret's home on Mud Creek Road, where she was shot and killed by her 70-year-old father-in-law, Charles Roger Ansley. Following the shooting of his daughter-in-law, Roger Ansley then turned the gun on himself, ending his own life. Law enforcement arrived at the scene to find both individuals deceased. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to lead the inquiry into the two deaths.
Investigators quickly determined the incident to be a murder-suicide. According to Margaret's mother, there had been a long-running dispute between her daughter and father-in-law. She revealed that Margaret was in the process of seeking a restraining order against him at the time of her death. The GBI's investigation concluded that Margaret Ansley's death was a homicide and Roger Ansley's was a suicide. With the perpetrator deceased, the investigation into Margaret's death was closed, leaving a family to mourn the devastating loss of two of its members in a single, violent episode.
