Teresa Harris Guthrie, a 54-year-old white female, was a cherished member of the Watkinsville, Georgia community, known for her vibrant personality and active involvement in local life. A lifelong resident of Oconee County, she was a familiar and friendly face to many, having worked for twenty-eight years as an administrative specialist at the University of Georgia.
Her life, however, came to a tragic and abrupt end on October 20, 2017.
On that day, Teresa was found deceased in her home on Greensboro Highway. Alongside her was her husband of sixteen years, 53-year-old Joe Guthrie. An investigation by the Oconee County Sheriff's Office concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. It was determined that Joe Guthrie had shot and killed his wife before taking his own life. The motive behind this devastating act remains unclear. As the perpetrator was also deceased, no further arrests were made in connection with Teresa's death.

She was a gifted athlete, an avid runner who had competed in the Boston Marathon, and a talented softball player.
