In the fall of 2018, a dispute between friends in Milledgeville, Georgia, ended in tragedy, leaving one man dead and a teenager facing a murder charge. The life of 25-year-old LaDarrius Deonte Cummings was cut short on the evening of Monday, October 15, 2018. Cummings, a male, was at the Milledgeville Manor apartments on Edwards Street when a confrontation with 18-year-old Monterius Terrell Grable escalated.
The two were reportedly arguing, with some witnesses suggesting the disagreement
may have been over stolen items. At some point, the verbal altercation turned physical, and Grable is alleged to have fired a single shot from a small-caliber handgun, striking Cummings in the abdomen. Emergency services were called to the scene, and Cummings was initially transported to Navicent Health Baldwin before being transferred to The Medical Center of Navicent Health in Macon, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries shortly before midnight.
Following the shooting, an investigation was launched by the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office. The following morning, on Tuesday, October 16, Monterius Terrell Grable surrendered to authorities, brought to the sheriff's office by his parents. He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault. Investigators have indicated that, based on the evidence and witness statements, Grable was the aggressor in the altercation. Although the apartment complex where the shooting occurred had a history of gang activity, authorities stated that this incident was believed to be an isolated event between the two friends and not related to gang violence.
