In the early morning hours of October 25, 2018, a tragedy unfolded in Monroe, Georgia, ending the life of 51-year-old Ronald Edward Folkerts, a white male. The events began when police received a 911 call around 3:20 a.m. from the ex-husband of Brittney Suzanne Folkerts, 45. Brittney had called her adult son, who was with his father, to confess that she had just shot her husband, Ronald, at their home on Glen Iris Drive. This call set in motion a grim series of events that would claim two lives and leave a family shattered by what was a known history of domestic violence.
As officers responded to the Glen Iris Drive address, they were also on the lookout for Brittney's vehicle. They located her on Ford Street, sitting in her car with her 19-year-old son standing beside it. The officers instructed the son to step away from the vehicle for his safety. As he backed away, a single gunshot rang out from inside the car. In front of her son and the two officers, Brittney Folkerts had taken her own life. Shortly thereafter, police discovered Ronald Folkerts deceased inside his home from a gunshot wound.
The investigation concluded that Brittney Suzanne Folkerts was the perpetrator in a murder-suicide. Due to her death, there were no arrests made or charges filed in the case of Ronald Folkerts' death. Friends and family remembered Ronald, the owner of Unlimited Mechanical Services, as a loving son, brother, father, and grandfather who was dedicated to his work and his family.
