In the early hours of January 2, 2019, a young man's life was cut short in a seemingly random act of violence in a Stockbridge, Georgia, mobile home park. Dakota Farr, a 20-year-old Caucasian male, was fatally shot while sitting in his vehicle with friends in a vacant driveway on Hillside Drive. The family of the Griffin resident was left grappling with why he was in that particular location, far from his home in Spalding County.
Despite being wounded, Farr was able to flag down
responding Clayton County police officers around 4:30 a.m. and inform them he had been shot. He was quickly transported to Southern Regional Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal. Also in the vehicle were a woman and a child; the woman sustained a gunshot wound to her arm that resulted in permanent damage, while the child was unharmed. Initially, the attack was described by police as being carried out by an unknown person for no apparent reason.
The investigation into Farr's death led to the arrest of 20-year-old DeQunn Watts. He was taken into custody and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery in connection with the shooting. Authorities alleged that Watts fired into the vehicle where Farr and his companions were seated.
Further investigation revealed that the shooting may have been the result of a planned robbery. This led to the arrests of 18-year-old Breonna Colley of Locust Grove and an unnamed juvenile. Both were charged with murder and criminal attempt for their alleged roles in setting up the robbery that ultimately led to Dakota Farr's death. Colley and the juvenile were taken into custody and held at the Clayton County Jail.
