In the spring of 2019, the life of a 59-year-old Augusta man, James Neeley Dukes, was abruptly ended by an act of violence. On the night of Thursday, April 4th, or in the early hours of Friday, April 5th, Dukes was shot on the 2500 block of Cascade Drive. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office and the coroner were called to the scene where Dukes was found with at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m. on April 5th.
