In the spring of 2025, a family tragedy unfolded in Augusta, Georgia, leaving a young man dead and his older brother accused of his murder. On the evening of Wednesday, March 19, 28-year-old A’kki Pauley was fatally shot. The incident occurred on Dabney Drive, where a dispute escalated into violence. Following the altercation, Pauley was transported by a private vehicle to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Another man was also wounded in the shooting but was expected to recover.
The Richmond County Sheriff's Office quickly identified the suspect as A'kki Pauley's 35-year-old brother, Donnell Varicy Mitchell. Authorities launched a search for Mitchell, considering him armed and dangerous. The investigation revealed a troubled history between the two brothers, including a prior incident involving firearms.
After remaining at large for several weeks, Donnell Mitchell was apprehended and booked into the Richmond County Jail on June 2, 2025. He faced charges of murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in connection with the death of his younger brother, A'kki Pauley.
