H. M. Eaton, a night telegraph operator, met a tragic end on November 21, 1893, while on duty at the Davisville depot in California. Eaton was shot and killed on the platform of the depot. Despite being gravely wounded, he managed to crawl a significant distance before being discovered in a dying condition. The incident shocked the local community, as Eaton was a well-known figure due to his position at the telegraph office.
