On July 14, 1885, Lamon Martinez, an elderly assistant living in a cabin on Putah Creek near Davisville, California, met a tragic end. Martinez was discovered dead by Juan Lopez, who returned from work on the nearby Pena farm to find his wife, Juana, shot and killed outside their home.
