On July 14, 1885, Lamon Martinez, an elderly assistant living in a cabin on Putah Creek near Davisville, California, met a tragic end. Martinez was discovered dead by Juan Lopez, who returned from work on the nearby Pena farm to find his wife, Juana, shot and killed outside their home. The circumstances surrounding Martinez's death were immediately suspicious, leading to a deeper investigation into the events of that fateful day.
