Charles A. Philliber, a barber in Davisville, California, met a tragic end on the evening of November 5, 1888. Philliber, who had been increasingly worried about his safety, was unable to obtain a gun for protection. On that fateful night, he asked an acquaintance to accompany him to Second and Olive Street, fearing for his life. Unfortunately, his fears were realized when he was killed that evening.
