In the summer of 2019, the life of 22-year-old Gerald Waldon, a male resident of Augusta, was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 29th, authorities were called to the intersection of Old Savannah Road and Ramsey Street where they discovered Waldon's body. He had sustained at least one gunshot wound, and his death was quickly ruled a homicide, launching an intensive investigation into the circumstances that led to his killing.
The investigation into Waldon's death led to the identification of four individuals believed to be involved. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office announced the arrests of Demarcus Clark, Kazarie Middleton, and Adrionna Bing. A fourth suspect, Sanjay Williams, was also identified and sought by law enforcement. The group faced serious charges, including murder, for their alleged roles in the shooting. As the case moved through the legal system, it was revealed that the incident stemmed from a pre-arranged meeting that escalated into a fatal robbery.
In August 2022, two of the accused, Demarcus Clark and Kazarie Middleton, faced a jury for their involvement in Waldon's death. The trial brought forth the harrowing details of the planned robbery that resulted in the shooting. After deliberations, the jury found both men guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Clark, identified as the shooter, received the most severe sentence: life in prison without the possibility of parole, in addition to another 25 years to be served consecutively. Middleton was also sentenced to life in prison, but with the possibility of parole.
Prior to the trial of her co-defendants, Adrionna Bing chose to accept a plea agreement. She pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of robbery. For her role in the events leading to Waldon's death, she was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison. The final suspect, Sanjay Williams, was also indicted on murder charges alongside the others. While the specific details of his trial or plea are not as widely publicized, he was also convicted and sentenced for his part in the crime.
