Shovown Baker, a 34-year-old Black man, was killed in Columbus, Georgia, on February 9, 2020, after gunfire erupted on Rice Street in the south part of the city. Early coverage of the case said the shooting left Baker dead and a second person in critical condition, turning what would have been an ordinary winter night into a scene of flashing lights, emergency responders, and sudden loss for everyone tied to him.
