In the spring of 2020, a life was tragically cut short in Hephzibah, a community on the outskirts of Augusta, Georgia. On the evening of April 13th, the sound of gunfire shattered the peace on the 2500 block of San Sebastian Court. When officers from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, they discovered 21-year-old Antonio Geter Jr. suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
The investigation into the death of the young man moved swiftly.
The very next day, law enforcement officials made an arrest in connection with the shooting. The individual taken into custody was 16-year-old Jamarius Walker. Despite his age, the authorities made the decision to charge him as an adult for the serious crime of murder. Following his arrest, Walker's booking photo was released to the public. The case highlighted a recurring local issue where juveniles accused of severe crimes are tried within the adult justice system.
