In the early morning hours of a Saturday in Macon, Georgia, the life of 20-year-old Octavius Savon Nixon was tragically cut short. On May 9, 2020, deputies from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a person shot at the Pendleton Homes Apartments on Houston Avenue. Upon their arrival at approximately 6:10 a.m., they discovered Nixon unresponsive outside one of the buildings. He had sustained gunshot wounds to his head and arm and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bibb County Coroner.
Initially, the investigation into the death of the young Black male was met with a lack of immediate leads, and authorities reported that there was no information available about a suspect. The case remained under active investigation as law enforcement officials appealed to the public for any information that could shed light on the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. Friends and family were left to mourn the sudden and violent loss of a young man.
Months later, in January 2021, a breakthrough in the case appeared to be on the horizon when the Bibb County Sheriff's Office announced they were seeking a person of interest for questioning in connection with Nixon's death. Investigators publicly identified 22-year-old Tolbert Legran Finney Jr. of Macon as the individual they wished to speak with regarding the homicide. They released his photograph and asked for the public's assistance in locating him. However, publicly available information regarding any subsequent arrest, charges, or conviction of a suspect in the death of Octavius Savon Nixon has not been released.
