In the spring of 2020, a gathering in Stone Mountain, Georgia, took a tragic turn, ending the life of a young father. On the evening of May 9th, a party was underway on Glen Cove Drive. Among the attendees was 26-year-old Kejuan McCullen, an African American man known for his devotion to his young daughter. He was a former employee of a local Walmart and had attended Stephenson High School in the area.
At some point during the party, a dispute erupted, escalating into a violent
altercation. In the midst of the chaos, Kejuan was shot in the head. He was rushed from the scene but tragically succumbed to his injuries the following day, May 10, 2020. His death left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends, who remembered him as a loving and dedicated father.
The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the DeKalb County Police Department and the Doraville Police K-9 Unit, launched an immediate and thorough investigation into the fatal shooting. Their efforts quickly led them to two suspects who had also been at the party. On May 16, 2020, authorities arrested 22-year-old Delon Rashaud Johnson and a 16-year-old juvenile in Lithonia.
Both Johnson and the unnamed teenager were charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with Kejuan McCullen's death. Following their arrests, Johnson was booked into the DeKalb County Jail, while the juvenile was taken to the DeKalb Regional Youth Detention Center. The arrests brought a small measure of solace to a community shaken by the senseless act of violence that cut short a young man's life.
