On May 12, 2024, 31-year-old Cequan James of Stone Mountain, Georgia, was fatally shot during a carjacking at a Chevron gas station on Redan Road in DeKalb County. James, a groundskeeper for the Georgia Tech housing department, was working a DoorDash delivery shift to support his family. He had stopped to refuel when two armed individuals approached him, demanded his vehicle, and shot him multiple times. James was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
