Miguel T. Soto, a 43-year-old veteran officer of the Oakland Police Department, tragically lost his life on June 22, 1994. Officer Soto, who had served the department for 22 years, was fatally shot in a northwest Oakland neighborhood. On that fateful night, Soto was found unconscious behind his patrol car, which still had its engine and lights on. A motorist discovered him and used the officer's car radio to call for help.
