In the early hours of May 1, 2018, a single gunshot shattered the morning quiet outside The Party Room nightclub on Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Inside, a witness heard the sound and went to investigate, discovering the nightclub's co-owner, Rogelio Hackett, a 57-year-old African American man, lying on the ground. Emergency services were called, but Hackett had been fatally wounded. The incident occurred around 5 a.m., following an event at the club the previous night.
