On the evening of Tuesday, February 20, 2024, emergency services responded to a distressing call in the 5200 block of West Street in Forest Park, a community within Clayton County, Georgia. Upon their arrival, they discovered a scene of violence where two young people had been shot. One of the victims was Majesty Riley, a 14-year-old female, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. She was immediately transported to a local hospital, but tragically, her injuries proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead. A 15-year-old male was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound to his arm; he was hospitalized and listed in stable condition.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified two suspects, 18-year-old Jayden Jacobs and 19-year-old Damarejay Garmon. According to the Clayton County Police Department, the violent encounter was the result of a prearranged meeting concerning a bookbag. This meeting escalated, leading to the gunfire that claimed Majesty Riley's life and injured the teenage boy. The investigation moved swiftly as law enforcement worked to bring the alleged perpetrators to justice.
Within days of the shooting, arrest warrants were issued for both Jacobs and Garmon. On Monday, February 26, 2024, Damarejay Garmon was located and taken into custody by the Clayton County Sheriff's Office. The search for the second suspect continued, and on Friday, March 1, 2024, Jayden Jacobs was also apprehended. Both individuals are now facing serious felony charges, including malice murder, aggravated assault, and armed robbery, in connection with the tragic and untimely death of Majesty Riley.
