In the winter of 1971, the community of Soperton, Georgia, was unsettled by a series of violent crimes that would leave a lasting mark. On January 12th, Lacy Thigpen, a 51-year-old woman, was at her store near Soperton when her life was tragically cut short. She was shot and killed in an act of violence that was later discovered to be part of a larger, more sinister pattern of criminal activity that had been plaguing the region.
