On the evening of December 17, 2020, 34-year-old Milana Briton Tozian Harper was found shot at a residence on Shy Street in Dexter, Georgia. Emergency services transported her to Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. A correctional officer at Dodge State Prison and a devoted mother to her son, Samuel Isaiah Harper, her death sent ripples of shock and grief through the community.
The Laurens County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, immediately launched a homicide investigation. For two months, family and friends awaited answers, grappling with the sudden and violent loss of a woman described as kind and loving to everyone she met. She was a member of the Baptist faith and attended Liberty Church in Dublin.
On February 17, 2021, exactly two months after Harper's death, authorities announced an arrest in the case. Jordan Walker, a 28-year-old man from Chester, Georgia, was taken into custody and charged with her murder. In addition to the murder charge, Walker faced multiple other counts, including two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, three counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The arrest brought a measure of relief to Harper's family as they began the long road toward justice for her death.
