In the early morning hours of June 8, 2020, the life of 29-year-old Dominique Lamar Phillips, a male resident of Macon, Georgia, was tragically cut short. The Bibb County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of several gunshots in the Fort Hill neighborhood of east Macon at approximately 1 a.m. However, at that time, they were unable to locate the source of the gunfire.
Later that morning, around 5 a.m., a grim discovery was made.
Deputies were dispatched to the corner of Hawkinsville Avenue and Eastview Avenue after a call about a person being down. In the backyard of a house on Hawkinsville Avenue, they found Dominique Lamar Phillips, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the face. Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley officially identified the victim at the scene.
The death of Phillips was the 28th homicide in Macon in 2020, a number that had already surpassed the total for the entire previous year. The Bibb County Crime Lab was called to the scene to process evidence and begin the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
In the months following the incident, law enforcement has continued to seek information from the public. In August 2020, Macon Regional Crimestoppers issued a public appeal for any information regarding the homicide of Dominique Phillips. Despite these efforts, as of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with his death, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation into the murder of Dominique Lamar Phillips remains ongoing.
