In the summer of 2011, the city of Macon, Georgia, was troubled by a series of violent acts. Among the lives tragically cut short was that of Alfred Smith Jr., a 35-year-old African American man. On the evening of July 25th, Smith was leaving Wings Cafe on Bloomfield Drive when he was fatally shot. The sudden violence of the act sent ripples of shock and grief through his family and the wider community.
