In the fall of 2020, a life was tragically cut short in a Stone Mountain, Georgia hotel. Mikfeeha Dotson, a 42-year-old female, was found deceased on the evening of October 24, 2020, inside a room at the Scottish Inn on Memorial Drive. Responding to a call about a person shot, officers from the DeKalb County Police Department discovered Dotson with multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation into her death would quickly point to a single suspect who had checked into the room where her body was found.
Hotel records, including a copy of a Georgia driver's license, identified the occupant of the room as Faruk Fadesire. A witness at the scene informed investigators that Dotson had gone to Fadesire's room. According to the witness, shortly after she sat down, Fadesire opened fire and then fled the hotel. Investigators found Fadesire's driver's license, concealed carry permit, and a debit card left behind at the scene. This evidence proved crucial in the manhunt that followed.
A little over three weeks after the shooting, law enforcement located and apprehended Faruk Fadesire at a residence in unincorporated Decatur. During the execution of a search warrant, a handgun was discovered. Subsequent forensic analysis by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that this was the weapon used in Dotson's murder, matching the bullet casings found at the crime scene.
Fadesire, who was 26 at the time of his conviction, stood trial for the murder of Mikfeeha Dotson. In October 2023, a DeKalb County jury found him guilty on all charges: Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. Following the verdict, a judge sentenced Faruk Fadesire to life in prison plus an additional five years, bringing a measure of justice to the senseless act that ended a woman's life.
