In the early evening of Thursday, October 29, 2020, a dispute in a Lawrenceville, Georgia, apartment complex parking lot escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 27-year-old Sayvon Redding. Gwinnett County police were called to the 300 block of Summer Ridge Lane around 6:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Redding in the parking lot with at least one gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led officers to a second individual, located about a block away from the initial scene. This man, identified as 21-year-old Isaac Dewater, was also suffering from a gunshot wound, though his injuries were not considered life-threatening. Authorities believe a fight involving several people in the parking lot preceded the gunfire.
Following their initial investigation, police identified Dewater as the suspect in Redding's death. He was subsequently arrested and faced charges of felony murder and aggravated assault. While an arrest was made, investigators continued to appeal to the public for any additional information regarding the incident.
