In the early evening of December 22, 2020, a dispute at a bustling bus station in southwest Atlanta turned fatal, claiming the life of 32-year-old Pierre Marquis McCloud. The altercation, which took place at the Greyhound station on Forsyth Street, escalated when a firearm was produced. McCloud was shot once in the chest.
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and provided immediate aid to McCloud before rushing him to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Despite their efforts to save his life, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The shooter had fled the scene on foot immediately after the incident, sparking a homicide investigation by the Atlanta Police Department.
Approximately one month later, on January 19, 2021, authorities announced a significant development in the case. Investigators identified 27-year-old Derrion Owens as the primary suspect in McCloud's death. At the time of this identification, Owens was already incarcerated at the Fulton County Jail on unrelated burglary charges. A warrant for murder was secured and served to him at the jail.
