In the quiet town of Nicholson, Georgia, a Valentine's Day in 2021 turned into a scene of tragedy and loss. On that Sunday, February 14th, 36-year-old Laura Michelle Grant was found deceased in a home on Winding Vine Lane. Her life was cut short in what authorities would later describe as an apparent murder-suicide.
The grim discovery was made by the mother of Brandon Wallace Pinson, 32, who arrived at her son's residence to find both him and Laura unresponsive. She immediately contacted emergency services. Investigators arriving at the scene found a distressing sight. The front porch and yard were littered with a liquor bottle and beer cans, hinting at a tumultuous atmosphere that may have preceded the tragic events. Inside, Laura Grant and Brandon Pinson were both found with fatal gunshot wounds.
According to reports from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, the couple, who were in a relationship, had been involved in a domestic dispute the night before. Pinson's mother had taken his daughter to stay with her after her son called and informed her of the argument with Grant. This would be the last communication she had with him before discovering the devastating scene the following evening.
Investigators found Pinson near a bedroom entrance with a handgun positioned between his legs. Laura was located a short distance away from him. The investigation into their deaths concluded that Pinson had shot and killed Grant before turning the gun on himself. In the aftermath of this violent incident, the community was left to mourn the loss of Laura, a woman described as kindhearted, loving, and friendly. She was a graduate of Norcross High School and the R.H. Daniel School of Nursing at Piedmont College in Athens.
