In the winter of 2016, a domestic dispute in Thomson, Georgia, escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 23-year-old Tyisha LaTay Davis. On the evening of December 20th, Davis was fatally shot in her home. The events of that night were the culmination of a volatile relationship with her husband, Lenny Ozzylee Moss, with whom she shared four young children. The couple had been separated, and Davis had recently moved back into the house they once shared, having changed the locks.
The situation came to a head when Moss arrived at the residence and a confrontation ensued. In a fit of rage, Moss shot Davis in the chest at close range. Witnesses, including a 14-year-old relative, were present in the home at the time of the shooting. After shooting Davis, Moss then fired several shots into a bedroom where other individuals were hiding. The children, who were in the living room, were initially prevented from leaving by Moss before he fled the scene.
Following the incident, law enforcement quickly identified Lenny Ozzylee Moss as the suspect. He was later apprehended and charged with the murder of his wife. At his trial in McDuffie County Superior Court, Moss was found guilty of malice murder and other related offenses. Testifying in his own defense, Moss claimed he did not intend to harm Davis. The court ultimately convicted him for the death of Tyisha Davis.
