In a tragic turn of events on Valentine's Day, 31-year-old Dreyon Mathis, a male from Austell, Georgia, lost his life in a shooting that also claimed the life of his 8-year-old son, Cashyon Mathis. The incident unfolded in the evening inside a home on Peel Castle Lane.
When Cobb County police responded to reports of a domestic dispute at approximately 8:30 p.m., they discovered a harrowing scene. Dreyon Mathis was found with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. His young son, also suffering from gunshot wounds, was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The family was left to grapple with the devastating loss of both a father and a son in a single, violent act.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly pointed to a member of their own family. The suspected gunman was identified as Dreyon's 27-year-old brother, Jermery Mathis. Authorities believe that after shooting his brother and nephew, Jermery turned the gun on himself. He was found at the scene with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
