In the quiet community of Valdosta, Georgia, the morning of March 8, 2021, was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the life of a young man. Jahnard Brooks, a 21-year-old African American male, was fatally shot in a residence located in the 900 block of McAfina Trail. The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:26 a.m., also left a 20-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to one of her lower extremities.
Valdosta Police Officers and Detectives were dispatched to the scene after an emergency call reported the shooting of two individuals. Upon their arrival, they discovered Brooks, who was pronounced deceased at the scene by Emergency Medical Services personnel. The female victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was subsequently released. The Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory processed the scene for evidence, marking the beginning of a thorough investigation into the tragic event.
In the days that followed, detectives from the Valdosta Police Department diligently pursued leads and analyzed evidence. Their investigation led them to identify 19-year-old Jarod Antwan Gordon, Jr., also a Valdosta resident, as the suspect in the shooting. On March 17, 2021, Gordon was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Lowndes County Jail.
Following his arrest, Gordon faced a series of serious charges, including felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was also charged with possession or receiving stolen property. In August 2021, a Lowndes County Grand Jury indicted Gordon on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, moving the case forward in the judicial system.
