In the spring of 2021, on the afternoon of April 26th, 34-year-old Paul Anthony Docks was standing beside his car outside a gas station on Redan Road in Stone Mountain, Georgia. It was around 2:30 p.m. when the tranquil afternoon was shattered by the sound of multiple gunshots. A vehicle, passing by the gas station, became the source of the deadly attack in a drive-by shooting that would end a life.
From the window of the moving car, a handgun was fired, and Paul Anthony Docks was struck
multiple times. Emergency services were called to the scene at the intersection of South Hairston and Redan roads, and Docks was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. In the immediate aftermath, investigators worked to piece together the events of that afternoon, removing a black sedan from the scene, though its exact involvement was not immediately detailed.
For nearly two months, the investigation into the death of Paul Anthony Docks continued. Then, on June 16, 2021, authorities made an arrest. With the assistance of U.S. Marshals and the Atlanta Police Department, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit apprehended 21-year-old Altavelius Rodriquze Wheeler in northeast Atlanta. The arrest was made without incident.
According to the arrest warrant, Wheeler was identified as the individual who was seen leaning out of a vehicle window and firing a handgun at the time of the incident. He was subsequently charged with malice murder in connection with the shooting death of Paul Anthony Docks. Following his arrest, Wheeler was transported to the DeKalb County Jail, where he was held without bond. The motive for the shooting and whether the two men knew each other remained unclear to investigators at the time of the arrest.
