Latoya Denise James, a 37-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on May 4, 2021, in Woodbine, Georgia. The incident occurred during a drug-related search warrant executed by Camden County deputies at a residence on U.S. Highway 17. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, there was an exchange of gunfire between the deputies and an occupant of the home. Latoya James was struck and killed during this exchange, while her cousin, Varshawn Lamont Brown, was injured.
