In the early evening of September 26, 2021, in Valdosta, Georgia, the life of 32-year-old Ronnie Darryl Greer, an African American male, was cut short. At approximately 7:25 p.m., emergency services were flooded with calls reporting a shooting in the 1200 block of West Savannah Avenue. Upon their arrival, Valdosta Police Officers discovered Greer with a gunshot wound to his lower body. First aid was immediately rendered at the scene by the officers until paramedics could take over.
Greer was rushed to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The investigation into the shooting began immediately, with detectives from the Valdosta Police Department leading the inquiry. Through their work, they were able to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting.
The investigation revealed that Torianto Markese Jackson, who was known to Greer, was the alleged shooter. Two days after the incident, on September 28, 2021, arrest warrants were secured for Jackson. The charges listed on the warrants were Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Authorities then sought the public's assistance in locating Jackson, cautioning that he should be considered armed and dangerous. He was believed to be traveling with a woman in a silver 2016 Chevrolet Malibu that had noticeable damage to the front driver's side quarter panel.
The search for Jackson continued for over a month. On November 1, 2021, the case saw a significant development when Torianto Jackson turned himself in to the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office.
