On the evening of October 11, 2021, a 32-year-old man named Christin Harris was inside an Exxon gas station on Columbia Drive in Decatur, Georgia. He was simply standing in line, waiting to make a purchase, when another man entered the store and approached him. The man, later identified as Jason Linear, attempted to take a handgun that Harris had on his right hip.
Harris reacted, turning to push Linear away. In response, Linear drew his own firearm and shot Harris.
After the shooting, Linear fled the scene. In a tragic turn of events, another individual, under the guise of rendering aid to the fallen Harris, stole his handgun. Christin Harris, described by loved ones as a loving father of three, a cherished son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, died from the gunshot wound.
The investigation into the senseless act of violence led DeKalb County police to Jason Linear. On a Saturday following the shooting, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a location on Glenwood Road. Linear was taken into custody without incident, and authorities seized four guns from the location. He was subsequently charged with malice murder and is being held at the DeKalb County Jail without bond. Friends of Harris remember him as a man with a charismatic smile and a kind heart, someone who was always willing to encourage others and took great pleasure in caring for those around him.
